GCA Senior Named Semifinalist in Prestigious Scholarship Program
Elaine Tang, a Senior at Gilbert Classical Academy (GCA), has been selected as a Semifinalist for a 2025 Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation scholarship. The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation scholarship is an achievement-based program that looks for well-rounded, bright young leaders who excel academically and are actively involved in their schools and communities. To be selected as recipients, students must be service-oriented and demonstrate a sustained commitment to improving their community.
Elaine Tang is no stranger to making an impact on the local community. Last year, Elaine inspired her school to create and donate a multitude of items to cancer patients at Banner Gateway Medical Center. Initially inspired by her volunteer work in music therapy, Elaine recognized the need to support cancer patients and spearheaded the creation of care packages for them. Through a "Dress Down" fundraising event and the collective efforts of over 14 clubs, GCA raised over $1,000 and gathered thousands of items including blankets, hats, port pillows, and handmade crafts. Elaine's initiative and the school's compassion brought joy and hope to cancer patients, leaving a lasting impact on the community.
Now selected as a Semifinalist for the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation scholarship, Elaine is among the top 1.27% of an application pool of over 105,000 students across the country. Semifinalists are now submitting an additional application which will be reviewed by a committee. Then the top 250 applicants will advance as Regional Finalists and compete for 150 available scholarships of $20,000 each.
"We are incredibly proud of Elaine for being named a Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation Semifinalist. Her dedication to academic excellence and community service is truly inspiring,” said Dr. Dan Hood, Principal at Gilbert Classical Academy. “We are confident that she will continue to make a positive impact in the world."
