Campo Verde and GCA Earn Recognition with AP Honor Roll

Campo Verde High School (CVHS) and Gilbert Classical Academy (GCA), have been recognized nationally for demonstrating academic achievement in Advanced Placement (AP) programs. The College Board has awarded both schools with the prestigious AP Honor Roll recognition. CVHS earned the AP Honor Roll Bronze recognition while GCA earned the AP Honor Roll Platinum with Access award for showcasing a commitment to equitable access to advanced coursework.

To qualify for the AP Honor Roll, schools must meet several criteria. Schools must ensure that at least 40% of their graduating class takes at least one AP exam, demonstrating a strong college-going culture. Additionally, at least 25% of the graduating class must earn a score of 3 or higher on at least one AP exam, indicating a commitment to academic rigor and student success. Finally, at least 2% of the graduating class must take five or more AP exams, with at least one exam taken in 9th or 10th grade, demonstrating a strategic approach to AP course selection and encouraging students to spread out their AP experiences across multiple years. The AP School Honor Roll offers four levels of distinction: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum.

To further recognize schools' commitment to equity and inclusion, the AP Access Award honors schools that demonstrate a clear and effective commitment to providing equitable access to advanced coursework for all students. To earn this award, the percentage of AP Exam takers who are underrepresented minority and/or low-income students must mirror the school's overall student demographics. For example, if 50% of a school's student body is low-income, then 50% of the AP Exam takers must also be low-income.

Over the past year across Gilbert Public Schools, 354 individual students earned AP Scholar awards, demonstrating their exceptional academic abilities. Of these, 167 students were recognized as AP Scholars with Honor, awarded to students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on 4 or more exams. Additionally, 220 students were awarded AP Scholars with Distinction, granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on 5 or more exams. Finally, 29 students earned AP Capstone diplomas, the highest level of achievement in the AP Capstone program.

"The AP Scholar awards are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students. To earn these awards, students must score high on multiple AP exams, which is no small feat,” said Marcie Taylor, Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education. “We are incredibly proud of our students’ achievements and the bright futures they have ahead of them."
