GCA Earns Sportsmanship Award and Tennis State Championship, Recognized at GPS Governing Board Meeting

Gilbert Classical Academy students and staff were recognized at the GPS Governing Board Meeting on May 12, 2026, for excellence in sportsmanship and athletics.
GCA was selected as the recipient of the 2A Glen Treadaway Sportsmanship Award. This honor, determined by the officiating community based on observations from the 2025–26 school year, recognizes the school’s commitment to true sportsmanship, talent, and hard work.
“One of the most prestigious awards in my mind is this sportsmanship award. It is about how those students and those coaches conduct themselves when they're on the field or on the court, and they're in the midst of competition,” said Superintendent Dr. Shane McCord during the board meeting. “They are true student athletes who care about their sport and who care about their school… That exemplifies what GCA is.”
Student-athlete Ayden Thielson was also honored at the board meeting for winning the Division Three Boys Tennis Singles State Championship, marking a significant individual achievement for the school’s athletic program.
